Laura Yiannakou

Laura Yiannakou is a womenswear and print designer, based in London. Having grown up here, her creative ideas stem from our music, clubs, galleries, the streets, street art and anything else that should catch her eye. Check out her SS10 Collection titled Rework. Remake. Recreate.

Laura explores the relationship between print and silhouette and looks for creative ways to push this. With a passion for fine art, inspiration comes from artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Dieter Roth. In fact, the research process and drawing is her favourite part – working with different paper qualities, art media and textures rapidly and excitedly, which brings forward the quality and style of her prints to a new dimension. The final outcome always portrays this, demonstrating a strong sense of energy and vibrancy.

We love her and if you’d like to check out the rest of her work, visit her site at laurayiannakou.com

Let the shopping begin at London Fashion Weekend

catwalk_2

I’ve just come back from Somerset House and 180 The Strand, which after a week of the London Fashion Week is now kicking off the London Fashion Weekend in association with Elle where over 120 designers are offering fabulous discounts for their autumn/winter 09 collection. The event started yesterday and will be going on until the 27th September.

For me the highlight was certainly the catwalk which was hosted by Louise Row, who not only looked beautiful but was brilliant.

Sadly my camera by then was dying and I only managed to grab a few shots.

After the catwalk, with the goodie bag over my shoulder and a glass of champagne consumed, the shopping continued. Did I find anything? I did, but not for myself, a wicked leather jacket for my friend for £49!!

The talented t shirt designers

Emerging talent in original t shirt design has become more apparent to me over the recent months. We created this blog because our main passion was seeking out emerging fasion designers so we could get a glimpse of original design that you don’t see everyday.

Emptees is a site that focuses on independent t shirt designers with links to their online stores. Here are a few of my favourties that I recently came across while having a browse.

A designer and a pretty cool friend of mine, Cole Blotcky has been on Emptees promoting his work for a while now. He’s at Byeline Design, which is a small graphic design firm in Normal, Illinois that features a collective of artists specialising in apparel, illustration and much more. Check out the site at www.byelinedesign.com

I’m hoping to get some of his thoughts on his work, emerging designers and why originality is king. Emerging Fervour awaits you Mr Blotcky.
