Max Steiner Jewelry design

Ever seen a piece of jewelry and thought you have to have it? Well, that’s how I felt when I saw the origami pieces from jewelry designer Max Steiner. Especially as we have an event going on at ESMOD Beirut on the 15th December where the running theme is ‘Origami’ – if only Max Steiner could be here to help me with my outfit! The background on Steiner is of an architectural modelmaker, sculptor, product designer, 3d modeler, and web developer based in New York. Check out some of my favourite pieces:

Threadware follows their dream

Check out the first collection of Threadware, a new women’s contemporary label from New York which debuts Spring 2011. Threadware was established on the belief that clothing should be inventive and accentuate a woman’s best features – hurrah, I like the sound of that as I personally don’t follow trends as much but definitely dress for my shape. And bold graphic prints, flirtatious details, and figure-flattering silhouettes that come together to create a collection that’s edgy, playful, and supremely wearable is right up my street!

Threadware has come about as two sisters, Rachel and Amy Gelender, decided to follow their dream! Another thumbs up as we are all for following dreams and we hope they don’t stop here and we’ll see them at NY Fashion Week next!! (PS: That is one of my dreams, not to design there but to sit in a front row and who knows… one day!!)

Darwin Deez

Darwin Deez’ self-titled debut album, could be easily summed up in one sentence: it’s really hard to dislike. It’s not that he’s an extraordinary musician and to be honest, neither is his band. The drummer and bass player actually never played before, but “Darwin loves them both as people and he wants to be around them”. I guess it’s exactly the sort of positive ingenuousness which makes Darwin Deez and his music so unique. What he does comes straight from his heart. And the more I listen to the album the merrier it gets. Even a song like “Bad Day” that starts with the lyrics “I hope that the last page of your 800 page novel is missing” makes you smile, because it’s just so lovely and true. “Radar Detector” is maybe the most danceable and funniest love song of this summer and if you can’t shake your hips to this tune, you’re either deaf or a Norwegian Black Metal musician who likes to burn down churches. So forget about your Jane Fonda aerobic DVD, buy the Darwin Deez album and you’ll have your everyday unit of wonderful and refreshing “indie rock with a side of calisthenics”.

Have no fear, just listen.

To be honest, I don’t know where or how to start. Trying to describe the sound of Emanuel And The Fear is almost impossible. But this shall be a review, so I’ll give it a shot: The debut album “Listen”, is a collection of unbelievably beautiful song jewels. The songs are like an emotional roller coaster ride; and even though I usually don’t like roller coasters, I can’t stop listening to it. It makes me happy, sad, angry and pensive at the same time. And you can sense that the “band leader” Emanuel Ayvas is a ridiculously talented composer, what he has written sounds more like a novel set to music than just a record. You won’t have a chance to avoid this album, it will catch you with all its density and visuality and never set you free again. But don’t worry, after you have listened to it, you will plead for life imprisonment all by yourself. It’s something for music lovers, expect much, but no particular genre. I’m stunned.
