Remember kids, guns aren’t cool – but bullets dangling round your neck look pretty hot. I got given some amazing samples from Love Bullets and wore this one to the Margin streetwear event yesterday (more on that soon).

30mm Silver Plated Clear Crystal £35 ∨

I loved it, mainly because of the message behind it…making something deadly into something beautiful that sends messages of love and peace. There are a few variations of the Love Bullet, check them out in the online store, but this one is my absolute favourite:

30mm Gold Plated Black Crystal £40 ∨

Martin Jegede, known as ‘Jegede’ is the artist behind Love Bullets…his story is pretty heavy, taken from Jegede’s site….

Jegede’s early childhood, was spent protesting outside Downing Street and shivering at the gates of Greenham Common. Born in 1978 to the struggling [though now hugely successful] artist Emmanuel Jegede, and prominent peace spokeswoman Anne Swollow, Jegede’s early education consisted of campaigning, protesting and demonstrating. His parents encouraged him to practise his beliefs through positivity, and be anti-nothing. His father’s passion for beauty and his mother’s for harmony installed within him a lesson that has guided him throughout his life.

Showing great early flair for art and design, Jegede spent his teenage years immersed in artistic projects. An application to arts mecca Central St. Martin’s was the natural progression – and, as far as Jegede was concerned, the only option. He applied exclusively to them, and, upon presenting his portfolio, was immediately offered an unconditional place. The strength of his talent outshone the usual entry requirements, and he was the only student in his year without the usually mandatory Art Foundation qualification.

In 2007, Jegede became involved with the charity work of former child soldier, Emmanuel Jal. An internationally acclaimed musician, Jal was searching for ways to transform his childhood experiences of war and violence into projects of creation and hope.

Inspired by Jal’s incredible story, Jegede created the ground-breaking new concept of the LoveBullet – a decommissioned bullet, adorned with crystals, and worn as jewellery. The LoveBullet is a visionary and singular fashion accessory, transcending all stereotypes and breaking all barriers. It inverts traditional notions of privilege and charity, by symbolising the seminal entwining of the fractured threads of fashion, art and humanity.

For Jegede’s full bio, check the Love Bullets website.

I’m not one for the latest celebrity craze, the kabbalah bracelet, that Birken/Marc Jacobs/Chanel bag, the slogan tshirt….the dreaded UGGs, and with Love Bullets being the latest to get the celebs excited, I may need to ride the wave for this one.
