I loved William Ames’s SS11 collection shown during NYFW. I’ve been an avid follower of his collections for a couple of years now, and with most things – they get better with age. Focusing on the 90′s minimalism for a while – his peak was reached when showing his latest collection in New York. Check out some images taken from Style.com.

The obvious addition this season was a palette of bright colours coupled with textured materials (raw silk, linen and silk mesh), with a sandy taupe playing the role of the primary shade. Skirts, both long and and short and high on the waist were another dominant feature in this collection.

In love with this collection and I’m already getting excited to see his next collection.

The Lako Bukia catwalk followed the running theme of multi-purpose wear with a clever concept of using very long zips over key seams in order to create a different look when unzipped. Each model walked out first with the zips closed and then again with them open. It took me a couple of models to realise this was happening; the transformation on some pieces being more dramatic than others. Good concept and the long white dress was beautiful.

Words from the label:
“The concept behind this second collection from Lako Bukia is emotions and the divide between positive, kind emotions and the darker, evil side. Using colour, shape and textiles to represent these diverse elements of one’s emotional characteristics Lako Bukia has created a strong, innovative collection.

The monochrome palette delineates the separate emotions – expressed through a set of white shirts against the darker black dresses, trousers and skirts. Using materials of different textures the collection also incorporates a range of fabrics including wools for the sharper forms and accents of silks to soften the shapes. ”

“Continuing the theme, the shapes have been adapted into two parts, with the sharp, square and rectangular lines integrated with softer, circular forms. The creative use of zips has made a synthesis possible as each garment within the collection can be transformed offering a combination of silhouettes.

The emotions collection has already been highly acclaimed and this young designer is definitely one to watch.

Currently studying at the London College of Fashion for her second BA degree, Lako Bukia has already achieved a first class honours degree in Fashion Design and Textiles from A. Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Art, shown to international acclaim in her home country of Georgia, has been hand selected to show at Ukrainian Fashion Week, has exhibited and studied at Central St Martins and also taken a course at the prestigious Instituto Marangoni in Milan. Lako has also worked with acclaimed stylist Katie Burnett to gain insight into the world of fashion styling.”

We’ve got lots more images on Filckr from Lako Bukia so make sure you go take a look.
Hello, my name is Claudia and I’m sort of a fashion victim. I don’t know the difference between Haute couture and prêt á porter (and I’m sure there is one). My trainers are probably the most expensive and fashionable things I’m wearing. I’d rather have band names than brand names on my shirts. And when I talk about seasons I mean something you can watch on the telly. So you’re maybe asking yourself why someone like me is allowed to write for a fashion blog. And you absolutely have a point there. The explanation is simple: No, I didn’t hack into the blog, I usually write about music for Emerging Fervour.

But then there was last week, I mean THE last week. The London Fashion Week. And yes, I went there. I went to the London Fashion Week. And here is the story of my adventure: lost in fashion.

I have to admit I was a bit nervous when I was entering Somerset House. I’ve only read a fashion magazine so far, hence I expected millions of busy people running around on red carpets in a flurry of flashbulbs from everywhere. But no such thing. It was almost cosy, so there was no chance to overlook all the dressed up common people. Some pretty stylish, some completely over the top and a few arty farty “fashionistas” hung around the place. My absolute all time favorite will always be this great phoney “I’ve just fallen out of bed and give a shit about my outfit”-look. Looks like Pete Doherty with clean clothes and clean veins. And I guess most of them spent hours to look like they don’t care.
When I was observing the scenery it was interesting to see how most of the fashionistas seemed to be waiting for photographers and bloggers to spot them and take a picture. They were instantly striking a pose like a professional model. I was impressed by so much self-confidence. But maybe that’s because I’m not that addicted to attention and usually look like a real disaster on pictures.

So far so good, it was time to step into the holy place and see what the designers had to offer. So I put my pass on, felt temporarily important and was lingering trough Somerset House. Most of the time it appeared more like an art exhibition to me and I was wondering if people seriously wear orange tights on their heads with a little plastic village on top. Maybe they do.
But of course you could also see a lot “user-friendly” fashion. More interesting than the fashion was to watch and chat with the designers. I always thought they wouldn’t even speak one word with you, when you’re not writing for a famous fashion magazine, but most of them were really frank with me talking about their stuff. And some of it I really liked!

After that it was time to see a presentation. My gosh, that was weird! Like looking in a shop window with living dummies. The model was standing on a platform, presenting the collection and posing. Despite the fact that I’m not even close to model body measures, I could never do this job. Standing for fifteen minutes on a platform with uncomfortable high heels while other people are taking pictures and staring at you, must be hard to sustain. You can’t scratch your head if it feels itchy or blow your nose and apparently you’re not allowed to smile as well. I was wondering if you could chat with them meanwhile, but probably they drop dead with shock. I’ll try this later on this year.

Last but not least: the catwalk show. Why the heck do models always look so bored while they’re on the catwalk? They get money for walking up and down, they should die laughing the whole time. But I guess it’s like an unwritten law as well as being skinny.

Before I conclude, one word about the music as this was the only thing that completely frustrated me. Music was obviously not a relevant topic. I’m still trying to get over the Lady Gaga song I heard, when I first got into Somerset House, but that’s a matter of personal taste. I just can’t get used to the fact that music was only a gap filler. It was a wasted opportunity and there could have been so many wicked things to enhance an event with music. Why not set a tent outside Somerset House where bands are playing? Why not let models shake a leg during a presentation? Why use cheesy electronical tunes instead of significant music that fits to the designs? Here’s a point where designers and the event organisers have to realise that music is no distraction, but rather a great benefit.

So in a nutshell the fashion week felt somehow like being on a schoolyard. Everyone’s in a certain clique and although you can sense the invisible boundaries, they’re all reliant on each other and belong together. It’s the game of seeking attention and trying to join the circle.

It’s fantastic that we have fabulous photographer friends who help us out with these amazing catwalks we were invited to. We went to the Ada Zanditon show on Tuesday Feb 23rd, and I took my friend Iman with me. She takes really good photos and has one of those fancy Nikon cameras…proper professional we are.

After waiting around in a massive 3-columned queue for about an hour, we finally moved and slowly creeped towards the doors to the huge room. A blessing in disguise, the back row gave Iman the opportunity to clamber onto the ledge behind her and take some nice shots. You can take a look at Flickr for lots more photographs of the show.

Please note: No one was injured as a result of taking these photographs

I really like the jackets, I like the whole over-sized idea and a lot of my favourite jackets are BIG. I also love the accents of bright colours – it’s such a refreshing thing to see after the wave of darkness throughout LFW this February. Don’t get me wrong, dark is good – but colour is priceless.

I’ve borrowed the below from the Vogue.com site, which interviewed Ada before her show.

“It’s been a rollercoaster ride from last season to this one!” Zanditon tells VOGUE.COM – noting her involvement with Vauxhall Fashion Scout and the British Fashion Council to be “both incredible opportunities” and ones that “have helped me develop my business in terms of its commercial elements and nurturing my creative vision”.

Of the vision for her solo show, Zanditon explains, ”My initial spark for the collection came from watching an intensely colourful low set winter sky through the dark inky outlines of bare tree branches from my studio window and imagining the creatures inhabiting this sultry nocturnal world, the most mysterious and eerie of which for me are bats with their fine structured wings and unusual ability to navigate in the dark”, she continues to say that “This led to the core concept and title Echolocation.”

We have loads more pictures from the show on our Flickr, but as always, we like to share but please reference Emerging Fervour as your source, and credits to our photographer, Iman Simon.

Have a look at some pictures from the Kinder Aggugini AW 10 show I saw on Saturday 20th. Check out our Flickr for lots more images of the show.

Here’s what the press release told us:
AW 2010 (for Kinder Aggugini) is inspired by Juliette Recamier, a woman who stood up to Napolean I, then the most powerful man in Europe. Beautiful, accomplished and with a real love for literature, Juliette is most famous for her Salon in Paris, which was one of the chief resorts of literary and political society. For this she was eventually exiled from Paris by the orders of Napoleon himself. I imagined if she were alive today she would be displaying all the characteristics of a muse both in style and intellect. I conceived a collection based on the kind of beautiful, feisty woman who lives like a true rockstar whilst turning heads both for her look and her intellect. What interested me most was how politics and literature mixed with beauty, posed a defiance to an empire and how such a spirit might be translated into a modern look. I mixed Napoleonic references with sensual dresses and early rockers style. Structuring the tailoring out of rigid cashmeres, converting 19th century war uniforms in super-soft tweeds and then underpinning the looks with soft dresses in enzyme washed silks both printed and cashmere/cotton muslin shirts or double milano jersey dresses. The result is an easy glamour of rigid structures opposed by soft dresses – an unconventional balance between constraining power and freeing intellect.

Well, we were so excited to see this fabulous designer. Very glamorous and rock-chic with a bit of mystery thrown in.

A little about Harriett’s Muse:

Famed for its sensuous yet traditional tailored corsets and extravagant party frocks, Harriet’s muse, born from the mischievous minds of Cheryl and Craig, encapsulates alluring fabrics with thespian inspiration to create a collection fit for any ball.

Already a label famously credited and admired by fashionistas from Dita Von Teese to Liv Tyler, Harriet’s Muse never fails to capture the imagination. Offering a wide range of custom made Basques in a variety of textures and colours, The collection also includes showy neckpieces, expertly constructed waist belts teamed up with floaty silk chiffon dresses and erotic monochrome prints.

Harriet’s Muse is a fusion of decadent style with a sinister influence; its quirky approach to fashion adds a dramatic edge to any special occasion.
