Don’t miss the the Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair this weekend

The Islington Art & Design Fair banner

When Nicola from Beautiful Soul asked us if we’d wanted to see the catwalk she was showcasing her ‘Miss Butterfly’ collection in, she didn’t have to ask us twice. It didn’t disappoint and we loved seeing her garments strutting down the catwalk together with pieces from Nancy Dee and Tammam, some perfectly completed with hats by Harvash.

What we didn’t realise until we arrived was that the catwalk was part of the Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair which this weekend showcased fashion, textile & jewellery.

Underground Ethical Catwalk : Beautiful Soul

After the show we explored the exhibition which is held over two floors and is showcasing some amazing new talents.

Here are a few of our favourites:

A Alicia (I had to drag Tracey away and the broche nearly came with us)

(We first met Gemma & Zara at the London Fashion Week and we love their knitwear and jewellery. Watch this space as we’ll get to know the girls better and show you some more of their amazing first collection)

Go on a treasure hunt

logo

Where? At the Boutique Sale, where I’ve popped by tonight to see the goodies and find a bargain.

From various designer clothes, accessories and shoes there is certainly something for everyone. A great mens selection and a bit of children wear make it the one-stop shop.

bags jeans

Be prepared to rummage around though as with every sample sale you’ll have to dig deep to find that something special. Being Swiss and known as liking order and knowing where everything is, this is a bit too much for me and I did give up after a short while and left empty handed.

However, if you do get a kick from the hunt, its well worth popping down to Brick Lane to get your hands on designer items.

When?
12pm – 8pm Friday
12pm – 7pm Saturday
12pm – 6pm Sunday

Where?
The Boiler House

I know it sounds like something from the London Fashion Week but it’s even better as everyone can go!! Somerset House is about to open the doors to a major new exhibition by SHOWstudio.

A programme of live events will transform the Embankment Galleries, allowing visitors to get inside the world of fashion. This is thanks to the award-winning fashion website by Nick Knight, one of the world’s most influential fashion image-makers.

Check out what’s on and by the looks of it, you’ll have to take several trips to get the most of it!!

What do you think if we say eel skin?

handbag

Sushi? Slippery little f****rs? Or handbags?

Well, we think handbags of course!! This might be a bit mean as we’re showing you bags you can’t get your hands on until next Spring/Summer 2010, but they are just too pretty to be tucked away until next year.

Pin-Tuck-Bag-SML

Ruched-Folded-Clutch-B-SML

Strip-Wrist-Clutch-SML

These are the creation of Heidi Mottram, a graduate from St Martin’s who’s worked for Vivienne Westwood and Matthew Williamson before she became a specialist in eel skin as a textile.

Her new collection is a celebration of the beautiful eel skin material. The stunning bags and purses show off her unique techniques and with its bright colours they will be a must have!

Choose between bright coral, teal, mustard, rich purple, deep grey and marron, or get one of each. They make me feel like a kid in a candy store!

If you can’t wait, you can purchased some designs at the Hidden Art Pop Up Shop as part of The Dock which takes place during the London Design Festival, 21st – 27th September 2009.
