Swedish School of Fashion & Textiles
At this year’s London Fashion Week acclaimed Swedish School of Fashion & Textiles made history, by showing abroad for the first time ever. Eleven of this year’s BA graduates were given the opportunity to present their collections in front of an eagerly awaiting mob of UK and International Press and Buyers. It’s great to see foreign schools coming to London and taking full advantage of the city’s unbeatable creative attitude and appreciation. This stuff really gets me excited, I love over the top, costume-like, dramatic fashion!! Good luck to the designers.

LONDON FASHION WEEK MENSWEAR: ORSCHEL-READ
The final day of LFW was menswear. I attended two shows, one being Orschel-Read. Admittedly, I donʼt know too much about mens fashion. I donʼt follow the mens trends – I pay attention to what guys are wearing on the street and my opinions form about what I like and don’t like from there. So attending menswear day was something completely different and new for me which was great!
Orschel-Readʼs “The Spy Who Becomes Me” S/S 11ʼ collection included modern and wearable pieces, slim fitting suits, pinstripes, flight jackets and jewel tones. The collection combined a balance of utilitarian design with tailoring.
I like that menswear has the ability to mix and match pieces to tailor a look to individual style and taste. I think that Orschel-Read displayed this well. For the adventurous, a full jewel toned suit, and for the more conservative, one jewel toned accent piece.
Deep V-neck sweaters were worn solo, over shirts or combined with a suit. Long skinny scarves were used to accessorize jackets, suits and shirts.

LFW Day 1: Ones to Watch Catwalk

This made me do a little dance, when the invite arrived, as it was so amazing last February that it’s the one catwalk I was extra excited about! Waiting to be let in, you could sense a buzz and as we finally got led to our places, it dawns on me that we’ve got a front-row, yay, how much better could it get?
The show started with ‘Lilee’ who’s colour palette of white, grey and navy blue conjured a sense of purity with a nautical feel. This was my personal favourite; clean lines, swishy materials and muted colours makes for one sophisticated lady and I’d be happy to wear any piece of this collection.
Charlotte Taylor’s was a brilliant follow up. Vintage robots, sail making, copper and rust provided the catalysts for this collection. It is colourful, quirky and fun and feels like sunny summer and that you’d be ready to play.

Full Speed Ahead
Two years have passed since Tunng released their last album Good Arrows. Now they’re back with a new sound and without an old member. And Then We Saw Land is an album full of charming and catchy tunes, embraced by the characteristic sound of Tunng. We met Becky Jacobs (vocals) and Mike Lindsay (guitar and vocals) on a boat on the Thames, the perfect place to talk about their journey, isn’t it?

Your new album “And Then We Saw Land” sounds really different compared to what you’ve done before. Where does the change come from?
Mike: There are a few things like Sam leaving the band, which changed things vocally, but we also didn’t want to make another ‘glitch cut and paste’ kind of electronic record. We’ve done that and we still like that stuff, but we wanted to try something we haven’t done before. A record that uses synths as synths not as chopped up sounds for instance. We wanted to make something that is bigger and proud, where people can sing along to. I think the album is the reflection of our live shows from the past couple of years. We really enjoyed the reaction of the audience to certain moments of the shows, when we played songs which had been reworked a to give them a bigger sound. That’s what we wanted to capture with the new album.
