Today’s lesson: credibility

Let’s start with a fact, nobody would deny; music creates fashion. Whether the way Johnny Rotten cut his shirt, David Bowie celebrated his androgyny or Brian Ferry emphasized his dandyism, they created styles.

Times have changed, and so has the synergy of music and fashion.
The good news is, there are artists like Ebony Bones!.
The bad news is, there are people like Liam Gallagher.

Ebony Bones! obviously expresses herself and her music through her style. And just like her sound, this style hits you with a hammer. It’s loud, motley, it’s wicked! She wears woollen bracelets and necklaces combined with Josephine Baker memorial banana skirts. Her outfits are like a declaration of war on all suicidal-skinny-jeans-wearing indie rockbands. Let’s come to the point: this is what punk used be. DIY with no rules.

twelve must haves for 2010

Watch out! You might hear a lot from these acts in 2010. At least that’s what I hope for.

Hudson Mohawke
How do you make a traditional blackmail letter? Right, you cut several characters from different magazines, put them together again and create a new meaning. HUDSON MOHAWKES‘ debut “butter” is like a musical blackmail. And believe me, even if you’ll pay the ransom, he won’t release you.

William Fitzsimmons
The fact that WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS is a psychotherapist from Illinois who makes depressing folk music about love and loss, shouldn’t keep you from buying his records. Far from it. His music is veritable, profound and beautiful. On top of this, he is one of the funniest and most honest people I’ve ever seen live.

Jose James
I’m still trying to handle the fact that JOSE JAMES debut “The Dreamer” was a like a miracle for contemporary jazz. From the first to the last note an absolute pleasure to listen to. So, knowing that he will launch his second album “Blackmagic” in February 2010 gives me a sleep disorder. And if you listen to the new songs on myspace, you’ll know what I mean. Enter at your own risk…
