Horrockses Fashions exhibition – travel back to the 40s and 50s

Aw we’re gutted we can’t bring you ‘On the street‘ this week but our James has had an accident!! Fear not though as he’s on the mend and hopefully will soon be back behind his camera.
So instead of seeing lovely people in amazing garments we thought why not take you back in time to the 40s and 50s, which is my personal favourite in style as it’s all about hugging our figures!
If you are like me, and love this area where women started to embrace fashion and dare a bit more, then you will love the exhibition which is currently held at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London where they are showing a new exhibition of Horrockses Fashions – off the peg in the ’40s and ’50s.
Horrockses Fashions Limited was the manufacturer of one of the most respected ready-to-wear labels in that time and we all know their full-skirted dresses. Horrockses Fashions used emerging artists such as Graham Sutherland, Eduardo Paolozzi and Louis le Brocquy and translated into cloth creating the most amazing prints, cuts & prints which I wouldn’t think twice to wear.
Unwrap yourself in Maria Severyna

I’m in love!
And I have to admit, it didn’t take much. A simple email from Tracey with a link to this dress and I was hooked on Maria Severyna.
The fabric, the cuts, how you wrap yourself into it are so sexy & feminine and I want her whole collection!
And whoever gets to unwrap it, should love it too
Maria Severyna herself seems a mystery as although you can buy her clothes at eBay & www.designerdreamcloset.com, you can’t find much about her. I have this picture in my head of a passionate, amazingly talented designer locked away in her studio, day and night creating those amazing pieces just for us! (Thank you, thank you, thank you!!)
And although based in New York, hurrah, there is worldwide shipping.
You can find many more things at www.designerdreamcloset.com
What’s in your wardrobe: Deborah Clements
Some of you know Deborah as the beautiful-handbag designer behind Clements and the author of our ‘Secret Diary of a Handbag Designer‘ posts. Oh, and the one who designed our super hot logo. Fresh-faced and bronzed having just come back from her South African wedding, Deborah is all ready to brave the colder climate and show us her keep-warm Spring(ish!) wardrobe.
Vintage Suede Jacket ∨
^ Debs: “The 70′s suede jacket is my latest Ebay purchase. I’m really into suede and cant wait to work it into my wardrobe. The grey jumper top is actually a cardigan back to front, a great way to get more out of you wardrobe and get the new sweater jumper look”.
Stripe Jacket ∨
^ Debs: “Another daytimer outfit. My black and white striped jacket is my one of my favourites. It goes with lots of stuff and a subtle statement piece. I am a sucker for stripes but this is rather elegant as it’s made from a silk chiffon type fabric. I’m into white denims a lot again and they are a bit more stylish than normal jeans. The gold converse have that extra edge to the normal converse”.
Blue Cords ∨
^ Debs: “Most of my outfits are daytime weekend styles as I am a mother now – not much freedom for partying anymore! Now that spring is here I like to wear brighter colours and mixed with trench is classic and stylish addition and suits absolutely everything. I love the bright blue of the cords with softer warmer colours just to tone them down a notch”.
What’s in your wardrobe: Claire Heggadon & Baby Sylvie
HOT MAMA!!! Claire used to work over at Pod1 with Nat, Tracey and I and we had to have her and her gorgeous little girl Sylvie on our wardrobe feature. How Claire manages to look so polished with a baby in tow is a mystery to us (we reckon it’s just bloody good genes) but this gives me some hope that one day I might be able to pull off looking this hot with a gorgeous snotty baby on my arm too…well, here’s hoping hey?!
