Ada Zanditon’s A/W 2011 Collection
We started Day 1 of London Fashion Week at On/Off where Ada Zanditon was showing her A/W 2011/12 collection ‘THE CRYOFLUX’.
Zanditon has been going from strength to strength and the venue was packed as her film was shown and you could feel the buzz about her new collection.
This season she’s taken inspiration from the extreme climate of Antarctica, the theme can be discovered in the engineered print of the Antarctic; the colour palette of navy, marine, flame and dark flame; the fluidity and structural elements of the fabrics as well as the exaggerated and asymmetrical lines of the garments.
The collection features a range of dresses, from tailored influences to fluid looser asymmetric shift dresses. True to form, Zanditon has included a selection of sensational showpiece dresses, inspired by the captivating natural formations of the Antarctic broken, frozen waterfalls.
The Jewellery, which once again sees Zanditon collaborating with Luca Romanyi, features printed tile, silver chain, black vegetable-tanned leather and metal in a range of geometric shapes. One word: WICKED!
Ada Zanditon S/S 11 Preview
On Tuesday night, after battling through London on an over-packed bus owing to tube strikes I finally made it to the preview of Ada Zanditon’s S/S ’11 collection, Pyramora.

I hadn’t heard of Ada before I went to this preview night, and was pleasantly surprised to see innovative construction techniques adorning the surfaces of wearable and exciting evening wear.
Being a textile designer myself, I am always drawn towards collections with an emphasis on fabrics and in this respect, Ada Zandition delivered. She contrasts futuristic and colourful prints with bold 3D shapes and structures, all stemming from her inspiration, Pyramids and Coral Reefs. The collection demonstrates a lovely balance of super light & airy fabrics, solid leather and heavy metallic silks.

I was also happy to discover that the designer classes herself as an ethical designer. It’s always good to see really great high fashion that has a conscious about our impact on the environment. Often I find that ethical brands sacrifice taste and style for sustainability, which is definitely not the case with Ada Zanditon. The label strives to use fabrics that are sourced from small scale ethical and reliable manufacturers, and uses AZO-free dyes which are believed to contain cancer causing chemicals.
Interview with Young British Designers
When we went to see emerging designers last February at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, the only annoying thing was, how difficult it seemed to get your hands on their collections as only a few stores and even fewer online shops stocked some of them. 6 month later and this has all changed as the anticipated ‘Young British Designer’ platform has opened its virutal doors and we can all now own a piece from a talented British emerging designer such as Eudon Choi, Charlotte Taylor, Alice Palmer, Ada Zanditon and many more!!
We love the site, not only for itself (it’s beautifully designed and so well thought through) but for someone to take a chance and support these great hidden talents. We just had to find out a bit more on what makes the ‘Young British Designer’ team tick:
We’ve been excited about the launch of your platform since we’ve heard about it months ago, but please tell us a bit more, what is YoungBritish Designers?
Young British Designers: Young British Designers was established in January this year by the four founding members: Debra Hepburn, Stuart Jackson, Julian Whitehead and myself Adriana Wheatley.

Sketchbook Magazine Pop-up Shop – this Friday
We covered Sketchbook Magazine a while back, and we’re so happy to announce that they’re having a pop-up shop showcasing some hot talent. Some we’ve covered, such as Ada Zanditon, Alice Palmer, Harriett’s Muse and Heidi Mottram. Others, including Yan To, Viking Wong, Swagga and Soul and Dejan Agatonovic are designers we haven’t covered, but are all coming to exclusively sell their samples, graduate collections or one-offs in store.
There will be stunning knitwear from Alice Palmer; covetable eel skin bags and purses from Heidi Mottram; innovative and desirable garments from the highly-acclaimed ethical designer Ada Zanditon and decadent and quirky designs from the mischievous Harriet’s Muse.
This show/shop is part of a three-week foray into the worlds of fashion, journalism, art and design, and is part of the celebration of Carnaby’s 50 years of fashion and music.
From 31st March to 19th April, visitors will be able to meet a number of Sketchbook’s contributing bloggers, artists, designers, illustrators and editors, and mingle with the cream of the contemporary fashion and arts industry.
Ada Zanditon A/W 10 Show at LFW
It’s fantastic that we have fabulous photographer friends who help us out with these amazing catwalks we were invited to. We went to the Ada Zanditon show on Tuesday Feb 23rd, and I took my friend Iman with me. She takes really good photos and has one of those fancy Nikon cameras…proper professional we are.
After waiting around in a massive 3-columned queue for about an hour, we finally moved and slowly creeped towards the doors to the huge room. A blessing in disguise, the back row gave Iman the opportunity to clamber onto the ledge behind her and take some nice shots. You can take a look at Flickr for lots more photographs of the show.
Please note: No one was injured as a result of taking these photographs
I really like the jackets, I like the whole over-sized idea and a lot of my favourite jackets are BIG. I also love the accents of bright colours – it’s such a refreshing thing to see after the wave of darkness throughout LFW this February. Don’t get me wrong, dark is good – but colour is priceless.
And now, the catwalks…
At last! London Fashion Week is finally here. We missed you!
Having covered the exhibitors we’re going to during LFW A/W 10…it’s time for the catwalks; so here’s our quickie breakdown of who we’re watching (so far). I’m sick with excitement…literally!

Exhibitors galore at Somerset House

So I thought I’d try and get your attention with this massive image, taken during S/S 10 back in September. As I said in my previous post, we’ve just been really overwhelmed with the support we’ve been getting and everyday we’re adding to our things to cover. So I’ve mentioned ON|OFF, which we’re planning on covering extensively, but there’s also Somerset House Exhibitions – which is just my favourite… it’s a place where lots of fabulous designers will be showcasing their collections including accessories, ready-to-wear, installations, Headonism (the millinery exhibition), the Lingerie Boudoir, the NEWGEN exhibition, estethica, the new Digital Presentation Space, Made by Scandinavians showcase and a whole load more.
For a full list of the designers exhibiting at Somerset House, check the Exhibitors section on the LFW site.
Righty… enough with the small talk and time for my top 5 exhibitors at Somerset House this season. As we’ve already covered BodyAmr and Beautiful Soul, we needn’t declare our love all over again…they know we love them!

We’ll also be covering the Ada Zanditon catwalk during LFW – can’t wait!
