Ramona Falls

I really love to discover music. Often it’s just music, which is pretty fine, but sometimes it’s more like a chain reaction where I discover much more than only new tunes. In the case of Ramona Falls, I have to tell the whole story. So, here it is.

A few days ago I discovered a director/animator called Stefan Nadelman. He does a lot of short films and commercials often stop motion and photo animations. Absolutely amazing, you should check out his site and have a look.
Anyway I saw a video he has made for Ramona Falls (this project is named after a waterfall in Oregon, USA), which is this one:

So after this I had a look at the myspace site and was thrilled by the music. A Lo-Fi sound mixed with sort of celtic folk elements, rough rock guitar hooks, piano tunes and on top you smell blues and wave. I’m running out of genres here, so let’s keep it this way (better than calling it indie…).

Even the explanation on myspace wasn’t helpful at all, the sound is described as “Buckminster Fuller painting a portrait of June Jordan in a library designed by Jorge Luis Borges”. I have to admit I didn’t know any of these names. So I looked them up.

Richard Buckminster “Bucky” Fuller was an American architect, author, designer, inventor and futurist. He is best known for his “Spaceship Earth” term and the geodesic dome, which is an example for his interests in energy and material efficiency. He was using words like sustainability and synergy, long before people even knew what environmental pollution was. June Millicent Jordan was a Caribbean poet, novelist, journalist, teacher and activist. She played an important role of black artistic, social and politic movements and became the voice of a time that was about gender, race, sexuality, politics, war and human rights. She is still regarded as one of the most significant bisexual writers of the 20th century. Jorge Luis Borges was an Argentine writer, essayist and poet. He wrote about infinity, immortality, spirituality and destiny and contributed his work to the so called fantasy literature. He achieved international fame with the Latin American boom in the 60s and opened the door for a lot of Spanish American novelists.

Phew! So now you can imagine what the music sounds, right? If not (or even if) you should buy the album Intuit. It was released in August 2009 and I have absolutely no clue how I could miss it. And as you can see there is so much more to learn, that’s why discovering music is so exciting. And exhausting…

Love this 6
