Emerging Fervour

To be honest, I don’t know where or how to start. Trying to describe the sound of Emanuel And The Fear is almost impossible. But this shall be a review, so I’ll give it a shot: The debut album “Listen”, is a collection of unbelievably beautiful song jewels. The songs are like an emotional roller coaster ride; and even though I usually don’t like roller coasters, I can’t stop listening to it. It makes me happy, sad, angry and pensive at the same time. And you can sense that the “band leader” Emanuel Ayvas is a ridiculously talented composer, what he has written sounds more like a novel set to music than just a record. You won’t have a chance to avoid this album, it will catch you with all its density and visuality and never set you free again. But don’t worry, after you have listened to it, you will plead for life imprisonment all by yourself. It’s something for music lovers, expect much, but no particular genre. I’m stunned.

And I was even more stunned, when I saw them performing live in Hamburg a month ago. There’s a difference between musicians who like what they do and musicians who are obsessed with what they’re doing. They’re permanently reinventing and developing their own sound. The gig didn’t have much to do with the album, most of the songs were arranged completely differently. But these are the sort of gigs where you leave with the certainty that you’ll be returning.

Finally I have to mention one thing: I don’t know why, but there are some instruments in this this world where I’m not capable of taking seriously. And one of example is the flute… But Nic Cowles convinced me otherwise, I never thought a flute could sound like this. Sheer madness, thank you.

Emanuel And The Fear are planning to return to Europe in October and you might know what my recommendation is: GO, GO, GO!
