Merri Making Animal Hoods

Merri Making was created by two friends, Meg and Harri who had a thirst for adventure after graduating from Nottingham with Fine Art and Philosophy. Let’s be honest and say that not all of us could pull off this look, but I love the fact that there are people out there who do, whether for a laugh or as a fashion statement.

Towards the end of last summer Meg and Harri decided to make 20 of these hoods and cycled to the Green Man Festival as a bit of an experiment. They stored them in their backpack with a ‘For Sale’ sign on their own hoods – and managed to sell them  within two days, and it’s clear to see what designers need to do to…if the customers don’t come to you, you have to get to the customer.

About their little adventure, they say “it was nuts, the conversations we had with people about Merri Making was so GREAT that we just made more, got signed up to do stewarding and went to Bestival! It was such a great summer!”

Since the summer, they’ve managed to get them in a few independent stores, while also focussing on their website, www.merrimaking.co.uk plus promoting the label through friends. Soon word spread and Merri Making seemed to have gained popularity…covering fashion events in Nottingham and making them at the Tate Modern as part of their live event, Merri Making are definitely making some noise in all the right places.

Katie from www.whatkatiewore.com also dons a more experimental version of this hat, orange tiger print…this is where Merri Making found us, through their blogroll follwing an early blog we wrote about Katie, Joe (her boyfriend) and the idea.

Have a gander at Merri Making’s site to see different styles and to see lot’s more pictures of people wearing these animal hoods. There is also a custom made service that these two offer, so if you don’t see the hoods you like in their gallery, just contact them and tell them the one you want at info@merrimaking.co.uk.

We wish them the best of luck and we hope their adventure continues to get bigger and better!

Love this 10
