What comes with Christmas……?
Some really, really tacky fashion! I’m sure there is one of those hidden somewhere in all our wardrobes… ok maybe not but I thought I make the people on these photos feel a bit better (“,)

I love these two ladies – how please they look in their festive outfits! Love it!

Mhhh scary thought that I would probably wear those….

Rude shoes from Kobi Levi
Kobi Levi lives and works in Israel designing one-off, but wearable shoes for the ladies. In the latest collection, you’ll see high heels based on blow-up dolls, shoes that look like cats, heels that are literally f***ing themselves and wedges that look like bananas.
Tongue
XXX Pump
Miao
Slingshot
Blow
Dog
Levi graduated from Bezalel academy of art & design, Jerusalem 2001 – however he was creating shoes since before that. Of his designs, Levi says, “I think only a very individual person will not be intimidated with these designs and enjoy the attention. It is important that these creations be wearable. These shoes wouldn’t be anywhere near as much fun if they were just an ornament”.
All these pieces are hand-made by Levi, so if you want to get a pair then visit the Kobi Levi site for more details and even more amazing shoes!
Mint Siren, something for the girls (and boys!) this weekend
Mint Siren is a London-based luxury lingerie brand, designed and created by Swedish designer Josefine Wing. Swedish design is so hot as it’s always so different – and it shows with Wing who is taking lingerie onto another level. Check out the latest collection – unfortunately it’s too late to get your Christmas orders in now as deadline was the 15th December but if you’re happy to wait for this then get your orders in now!
There’s an interview from Fashion Zest with Josefine – to read the rest of the interview check out www.fashionzest.com
On how Josefine got into fahsion design…
“I was interested in making clothing from an early age. With a grandmother who had been a dressmaker and and aunt who was an arts and crafts teacher I was introduced to making clothing when quite young. I would make my own little creations and even sell some to friends at school. However, it took me until I was 22, when creating a small clothing label with a friend in America, to realized that it was something I would like to do for a living. I returned to Europe and enrolled at fashion design school in 2002.”
C’est Jol!
The C’est Jol! AW collection of necklaces and cuffs, by designer Alison Dawson is absolutely beautiful. Based in Toronto, Canada – Alison explores the sculptural and aesthetic qualities in materials such as cords, piping and tapes, which provide the basis for her concept and design inspiration.
Check out a couple of pieces from her latest collection.
Oooooooh these are so up my street. All pieces come with 18kt gold accents…they are just oozing sumptuousness.

My Birthday is in a few weeks time.
You know who to call…
Cecilia Cassini – just another child star?
Ok, so most of you have probably heard of Cecilia Cassini, the 10 year old fashion designer from California.
When I first heard of her I was pretty impressed by her story…
“Since Cecilia received her first sewing machine for her sixth birthday, she has not stopped sewing and creating her designs. Today, at ten years old Cecilia, is “the youngest fashion designer in the country – and maybe even in the world.”
Over the past four years, Cecilia has taken a few sewing lessons here and there; but, mostly, she has learned by breaking a lot of needles on her machine and ripping out a lot of crooked stitches.”
- and then I saw this video…
Drawing Fashion at London’s Design Museum
Curator Ria Hawthorne is presenting an exhibition at the Design Museum paying tribute to the big names in fashion illustration.
This exhibition showcases fashion illustrators at their creative heights: Georges Lepape at the beginning of the century, Gruau in the 40′s and 50′s, Antonio throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, to current artists Mats Gustafson, Aurore de la Morinerie and Francois Berthoud. Film-clips, news reels, music and photography will sit alongside the original illustrations to reflect not only the spirit and the style of the decades but also the wider social and cultural changes of the century.

Francois Berthound
Mats Gustafson
‘Drawing Fashion’ also includes a rare collection of work from classic advertisements, vintage Vogue covers and illustrations from Chanel, Dior, Comme des Garçons, McQueen and Viktor & Rolf.
For information on tickets, check out Ticketweb. Drawing Fashion runs until March 2011 – I hope I’ll be in London before then!

Max Steiner Jewelry design
Ever seen a piece of jewelry and thought you have to have it? Well, that’s how I felt when I saw the origami pieces from jewelry designer Max Steiner. Especially as we have an event going on at ESMOD Beirut on the 15th December where the running theme is ‘Origami’ – if only Max Steiner could be here to help me with my outfit! The background on Steiner is of an architectural modelmaker, sculptor, product designer, 3d modeler, and web developer based in New York. Check out some of my favourite pieces:
The Origami Collection
^ Origami Lily Earrings – Sterling Silver – $130
^ Origami Crane Necklace – 18kt Gold – $680
The Icon Collection
^ Thick Icon Brick Necklace – Sterling Silver – $190.00
New York Subway
^ New York Subway Bracelet – Sterling Silver – $125.00
There are lots more beautiful pieces on Steiner’s site, www.maxsteinerdesign.com.
Sara goes to fashion school!
I’ve finally made the big move to Lebanon and I couldn’t be happier. I enrolled at ESMOD fashion school in Beirut, the home of Krikor Jabotian and Lara Khoury about a month ago and I attended the first lecture today! It was hectic, crazy and a little bit overwhelming but it’s been my dream since I can remember. However, it seems like I am the only one over 25, but it just means that I’m more determined than ever to realise my dream. I actually recall redesigning our school uniform, sitting in the back of a maths class when I was about 10. Unfortunately, my pieces didn’t make it mainstream but the passion was there!
Check out my first drawing of a mannequin I did today – I’m so proud!
And you with dirty minds like my subconscious mind obviously is – that misplaced circled number looks like a nipple – I know!
I’m so excited to see what the rest of this year (well – the next 3 years(!)) brings and I’ll be sure to post my progress along the way.
